A special shop for me: The Lending Library & Second Hand Bookshop
This bookshop is dedicated to my workmate Harald Dorsch (1953-2017), who unfortunately passed away one year ago on 14 March. He was one of the most intelligent and sage people I ever met.
He had about 10000 books and of course he read all of them. At our school he was a teacher for physics and mathematics. Moreover he was the „Keeper of the books“ at our school library. I miss him dearly.
This little shop has two floors in order to keep a lot of reading stuff for the honorable readership. Of course you can find everything from Aristoteles to Zola bound in leather, linen and paperback. On the second floor the interested reader can study the books on site or dedicate themselves to researches at desks with modern gas lamps.
Around 1900 over 3000 German lending libraries provided three quarters of the whole production of German publishing companies for loan.
Therefore a lot of literature was available for many people.
The special thing about this house are the side walls. These walls don’t exist. A two unit side wall always has two windows. So in each case I cut out the middle piece of a three unit wall and put the pieces together.
